Longest bridge over water: China's Qingdao Haiwan Bridge sets world record
BEIJING, China -- The Qingdao Haiwan Bridge, which links the city of Qingdao in Eastern China's Shandong province with the suburban Huangdao District across the waters of Jiaozhou Bay, has 42.5 km (26.4 miles) and sets the new world record for the Longest bridge over water.

It took four years to build The World's Longest Bridge, at a cost of £5.5 billion, and the 450,000-tonne steel structure took more than 10,000 workers to construct.
It's sturdy too, with Chinese officials stating that the structure can withstand typhoons, the impact of a 300,000 tonne vessel or a magnitude 8 earthquake.

The previous Guinness world record holder of the longest-bridge title was the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in Louisiana, United States, with a 24-mile-long bridge dangling over the massive Pontchartrain.
Guinness World Records also recognized The world's longest Tibetan bridge: it has a span of 374 m (1,227 ft), over the river Po in Turin, Italy.
The new record now means that China holds both the land and water records for colossal bridges.
The top three land bridges, including the longest bridge in the world -- the 102 mile Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge -- are all found within the People's Republic.
