Largest Santa Claus parade: Portuguese City sets world record
PORTO, Portugal--14,963 santas have paraded through the streets of Porto in northern Portugal
- setting the new world record for the Largest Santa Claus Parade.
The previous Guinness world record for the Largest Santa Claus Parade was 14,472 people dressed up as Santa Claus, set last year.
Once again, the idea this year was to surpass the previous Guinness world record, but also to provide Christmas presents for children in need.
Filled with Christmas spirit, several groups joined the World's Largest Santa Claus parade, from motorcycle groups, to dancing schools that danced along the streets, and one double deck bus with a foam machine providing 'snow' along the way.
For each Santa that passed the finish line of the parade's route, €1 was given to the cause by the event's organisers. The organisers of the event had distributed 19,000 Santa Claus suits.
Guinness World Records also recognized the fastest marathon dressed as Santa Claus, which is 2 hr 55 min 50 sec and was achieved by Paul Simons (UK)at the Flora London Marathon, London, UK.
