Largest Kilt: Steve Campbell sets world record

TULSA, OK, USA -- SCOTS Ex-pat businessman Steve Campbell ordered 170 square yards of material to make a 25-foot long kiltand used it to dress an 80ft statue for the Oklahoma Scottish Festival , setting the world record for the Largest Kilt, according to World Record Academy (www.worldrecordacademy.com).

The Guinness world record for the largest kilt race was achieved by 1,089 participants at the Perth Kilt Run in Perth, Ontario, Canada.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most people dressed as Robin Hood: 1,119 at Castle Green, Nottingham, UK.

The expat led a US charity bid to put the Black Watch tartan kilt on the towering Golden Driller landmark in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Mr Campbell, an IT expert, from Kemnay, Aberdeenshire, saw the massive garment, with a waist measuring 48feet, put in place last Friday.

"The great thing about this record attempt is that the public plays a major role in it; they get to be part of the World Record attempt and choose the Tartan for the World's Largest Kilt" said Steve Campbell, Executive Director of the Scottish Festival.

The World's Largest Kilt, which marks the Oklahoma Scottish Festival, has raised £600 for UK veterans charity Help for Heroes and the US counterpart, the Wounded Warrior Project.
