The previous Guinness world record for Longest time on a balance board was an hour and 49 minutes.

Guinness World Records also recognized The most knee bends performed on a balance board in one minute: 54, by Ashrita Furman (USA).

Patton, who began training in gymnastics when he was 6 years old, said he started practicing on the balance board about a month ago.

"My little brother got a Guinness Book of World Records for Christmas," Wilson said. "He's not much for reading, so I borrowed it and flipped through it. When I saw that record, I thought, 'I can do that.'"

Mont Whitson, the teenager's gymnastics coach, said the record attempt was a way for Patton to keep up his training while recovering from a rotator cuff injury.

"When I heard he wanted to do this, I encouraged him. He needed something to focus on that was both rewarding and incorporated balance."

"He is super dedicated as an athlete, both very intense and talented," Whitson said. "He's had some setbacks with injuries, but he's persevered and kept battling back."
