Greatest distance run on a treadmill in one week: Sharon Gayter sets world record (Video)

Middlesbrough, UK -- Sharon Gayter, 48, from Guisborough, a Teesside University lecturer, ran a total of 517.3 miles (832.5 km) in seven days in Middlesbrough at Teesside University - setting the new world record for the greatest distance run on a treadmill in one week, according to World Record Academy (www.worldrecordacademy.com).

The Guinness world record for the greatest distance run on a treadmill in one week is 753.24 km (468.04 miles) and was achieved by Lee Chamberlain (UK).

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the greatest distance run by a team of twelve in 48 hours on a treadmill: 868.64 km (539.86 miles), set by Porsche Human Performance (UK), in Goodwood, Chichester, UK.

Her incredible achievement not only shattered the existing women's record but also the men's record.

It was achieved in Middlesbrough at Teesside University, where Sharon was a student and where she is now a part-time lecturer.

To beat the previous Guinness World Records she ran for 18 hours a day while raising money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and Zoe's Place Baby Hospice.

Not bad for someone who the previous year wondered whether she would run again after suffering an ankle injury.

Sharon Gayter, 48, from Guisborough, looked amazingly well considering her epic feat. She said: "It felt too easy because I have had a good team behind me."
