The Guinness World Records' record for the first person to reach 100 million likes on Facebook was set by Colombian singer Shakira (b. Shakira Mebarak Ripoll).

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest Internet café; it is ChamsCity Digital Mall with facilities in Lagos and Abuja, Nigeria, offering each 1,027 computer terminals.

Shakira's Facebook page has grown from 318,000 "likes" to 100 million—becoming the first page to do so. That's 8% of Facebook's universe of 1.28 billion monthly active users around the world.

Only Facebook's own brand page and mobile-app page have more people who have liked them.

I was just told I now have the most-followed page on Facebook in the world! I still cannot believe it! I always wanted to have a lot of friends but never imagined it would be so many...! So humbled, can't thank you guys enough for your support. I feel so fortunate to have you. Giant kiss! Forever thankful, Shak" (enlarge photo)

"I am honored and humbled about reaching this milestone, because it's one that's purely about connecting with my fans from all parts of the globe. Social media and specifically Facebook has helped myself and other artists bridge the gap between the stage and the audience.

"We've been able to create a conversation, where both artists and fans can share with one another their thoughts, achievements, the most important moments of their lives in photographs and videos, and have a real, ongoing dialogue," she said.

Shakira's page is known as a brand page to differentiate it from personal pages.   Brand pages' popularity is measured by "likes," the number of people who have chosen to follow posts by the pages.

Shakira told The Wall Street Journal that the milestone was "a really welcoming and heartwarming surprise."

Shakira holds the distinction as most liked person on Facebook ahead of pop stars Rihanna and Eminem.

A separate report on Mashable said Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg himself congratulated the singer: "Congrats! What an amazing milestone for an amazing person."
