Longest
electric car journey - Mira EV sets world record
TOKYO , Japan -- With 8320 Sanyo No.18650
batteries (worth $55 000), Mira
EV, an electrically powered Daihatsu Mira developed
by the Japan Electric Vehicle Club went 623 miles (1,003.18
km) on a single charge - setting the new world record for
the Longest
electric car journey.

Mira almost doubled its previous Guinness
world record of 555.6km set last November, finally rolling
to a stop after 1003.18km.
The car named Mira
EV travelled at speeds of around 40 kph and ran for
27.5 hours covering a distance of 1,003 km without being recharged
on a racing course in Shimotsuma in Ibaraki Prefecture.
It took 17 drivers 27 hours to complete
the new world record for the Longest
electric car journey over the weekend with the car
cruising around a racing track in Shimotsuma, Japan, at a
steady 40km/h.
Sanyo Electric Co is the world’s largest
rechargeable battery manufacturer, and while this power solution
is far from viable for mass production, the company is working
with another Japanese small car maker on a much more practical
project.
