Most people husking corn: Knott's Berry Farm set world record (Video)
BUENA PARK, CA, USA -- A crowd of 351 of people gathered at Knott's Berry Farm to husk corn at once , setting the world record for Most people husking corn at once.
The Guinness world record for the most corn husked in one minute by a team of four is 17 on the Food Network TV show Paula's Party in Savannah, Georgia, USA.
Guinness World Records also recognized the most corn cobs on a single plant: 16, grown by Tyler Craig (USA) at his home in Swedesburg, Iowa, USA.
On the count of three, participants had to shuck the corn, starting with the silk tassle, peeling the husk all the way to the ear's stalk.
"Knott's Berry Farm chose a corn husking event because it really takes us back to our roots as a farm," says Marty Keithley, Knott's Berry Farm's general manager.
"Knott's Berry Farm founders Walter and Cordelia Knott came to Buena Park in the 1920's to make a living farming, and for a time corn was one of their crops."
Today the park offers over 165 rides, shows and attractions, though it still offers corn in the famous Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant.
"If it weren't for the family farm, and later the family restaurant, we would not have Knott's Berry Farm Theme Park today," added Keithley.
Knott's Berry Farm is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, a publicly traded partnership that is listed for trading on The New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "FUN."
In addition to Knott's Berry Farm, Cedar Fair owns and operates ten other amusement parks, six water parks, one indoor water park resort, and five hotels.
Cedar Fair also operates the Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park in Gilroy, Calif. under a management contract.
Knott's Berry Farm's corporate parent, Cedar Fair Entertainment Co., has named this the year of world records, requiring each of the company's 11 parks to set a record of some sort.
In April, 317 visitors set a world record at the Carowinds park in Charlotte, S. C., by dyeing Easter eggs.
