The previous Guinness world record for the largest aluminium can sculpture was made of 35,679 beer cans and was achieved by NPO Hojin Juminno Chikara, Amanokawa Jikkoiinkai and Takatoricho Ikku Jichikai (all Japan) in Takaichigun, Nara, Japan.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest aluminum can chain; it measured 8.65 km (5.37 miles) and used 66,343 drink cans, and was created by Aluminum Association (USA), at the Brown County Fairgrounds, Green Bay, Wisconsin USA.

The world's largest aluminium can sculpture smashes the previous Guinness world record by nearly 11,000 cans.

The aluminium cans, which do not display any logos, were stuck together using 919 bottles of superglue and 521 cans of liquid nail glue.

Saeed Fadhel Al Mazrooei, President and CEO of EMAL said: "Today's achievement is symbolic in three ways: That we are building the Al Maqta'a fort from aluminium is symbolic as it is the metal from which we are building a brighter Emirati economic future."

"That all of us have come together to build this World Record, a testament to the strength in unity that is possessed by the nation of the United Arab Emirates. And that through uniting together for this monumental effort to break a world record, it is symbolic as we further showcase Emirati excellence positively in the global community."
