RPT

Adrian Rattenbury, president of
RPTeurope, believes the record attempt, while light-hearted
in nature, has a serious side to it.
"This event is part of our 'Grow the Game
Initiative' aimed at increasing the number of people playing
tennis,'' he said.
"Over the past 15 years around three million
people have dropped out of the game and more than 60 per cent
of these are juniors under the age of 16.
"It is essential we concentrate more on
promoting the game at grass roots rather than trying to produce
one world-class player."
The
previous Guinness world record, in which people bounce balls
on tennis rackets simultaneously for one minute, was 383 set
at the Saddleworth Village Olympics near Oldham in 2006.
The record is for the total number
of people involved in the exercise at the same time.
