Smallest library: Canadian library sets world record despite Guinness' rejection (VIDEO)

CARDIGAN, Canada--The library in Cardigan, in Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada, operated by John A. MacDonald, sits in a building that measures 3.5 x 3.5 metres, and holds about 1,800 books; a lifetime membership costs $5, and it runs on an honour system,
setting the world record for the Smallest library, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness world record for the smallest printed book measures 0.74 x 0.75 mm (0.0291 x 0.0295 in) and is entitled "Flowers of the four seasons". 250 copies of it were printed by Toppan Printing Co., Ltd Printing Museum (Japan) in Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the smallest newspaper - it is an edition of the newspaper Terra Nostra (Portugal) which measures 18.27 x 25.35 mm (0.72 x 0.99 in) and was achieved by Nova Gráfica (Portugal) in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Azores, Portugal.

MacDonald's 12-year-old daughter, Alexandrea, helps out at the library, and she sees a lot of drive-by traffic from both locals and tourists.

"I would say that there's a very good selection of books here," said Alexandrea, who helps her dad out at the library.

I think that when they see that, when they're driving by, they're thinking, oh, maybe they're just heading on the way to Montague Library, but then they think, 'Oh, Canada's Smallest Library. That's pretty cool. I'm going to go check that out,'" she said.

MacDonald has contacted Guinness World Records, but officials said there isn't a category for the world's smallest library, the CBC News reported.

Meanwhile, World Record Academy, the world's largest record certifying organization has UNLIMITED categories and approved this new world record & category.
