The previous Guinness world record for the largest game of dodgeball was played by 2,136 participants and was organized by Phi Kappa Psi and Dodgeball Club at the Rochester Institute of Technology (all USA).
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest game of gaga ball, which consisted of 481 participants and was organized by Briarwood Day Camp in Furlong, Pennsylvania, USA. Gaga ball is a variation of dodgeball in which participants must hit (rather than throw) the ball and are only eliminated when struck by a ball below the knees.
The school had originally set the world record in 2010 but it has been broken many times since.
Team blue battled team gold this week to make record history. Students at the university nearly doubled the record they set last year when 1,745 individuals participated in the game.
The event was so large that a corporate sponsor provided 1,000 dodge balls while also refereeing the contest.
