Largest fruit salad: Vienna breaks Guinness World Records' record (VIDEO)
VIENNA, Austria -- Employees from the food chain Spar made an 8.69 tonne fruit salad on the MuseumsQuartier in central Vienna; the enormous snack beat the previous Guinness World Records' record by a large margin and sets the new world record for the Largest fruit salad,
according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness World Records' record for the largest fruit salad weighed 8,690 kg (19,158 lb 2.72 oz) and was achieved by Spar Österreichische Warenhandels-AG (Austria) in Vienna, Austria.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest serving of potato salad; it was made by Spilva Ltd, Latvia and weighed 3.277 tonnes (7,224 lb 8 oz) and was exhibited at the International Exhibition Centre of the Riga Technical University, Riga, Latvia.
The previous Guinness World Records' record for the largest fruit salad was held by the students of the University of Massachusetts, who cut up 6.9 tonnes of fruit.
Around 150 Austrian employees started cutting fruit into a special swimming pool at eight in the morning under the stern eye of a Guinness World Records' judge from London.
They used ten different types of fruit, including apples, pineapples, melons, and strawberries.
When the competition was finished, the Spar employees handed out portions to passers-by, and gave the rest away to charity organisations.
Additionally, a portion of the food was given to police officers and medics working at the Donauinsel festival, as part of their catering.
