CHARLESTON, W.Va., USA -- The Rev. Donnie Russell found an egg which is 2.1 centimeters long, or about the size of a penny, and weighs 3.46 grams - setting the new world record for the Smallest Chicken Egg, according to World Record Academy (www.worldrecordacademy.com).

The Guinness world record for the most smallest chicken egg is 2.7 centimeters.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest Easter egg hunt: it consisted of 501,000 eggs that were searched for by 9,753 children accompanied by their parents at the Cypress Gardens Adventure Park in Winter Haven, Florida, USA.
Donnie Russell has said that he found the egg last month on his farm in West Virginia - it's 2.1 centimetres long, or a bit bigger than a penny, and weighs 3.46 grams - a little more than one-tenth of an ounce.
Russell said Friday it's difficult to put the find into words.
He said that he and his wife keep about a dozen chickens and give the eggs away. He said the bird he believes laid the egg is a normal-size chicken.
"We thank the good Lord above for this being a West Virginia egg," he said.

"West Virginia's hills are full of surprises – we have a little bit of everything, it seems," said Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass.
"I'm very pleased that Rev. Russell and others are keeping agriculture alive in the Mountain State, and that he takes obvious pride in being a West Virginia farmer."
