Largest triangle ensemble: Cambridgeshire Music set world record (Video)

The previous Guinness World Record for the largest triangle ensemble involved 550 participants in the audience of 'Guinness World Records: 50 years, 50 records' at The London Studios, UK.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest harmonica ensemble; it involved 6,131 participants for an event organised by the Tom Lee Music Company Limited in Happy Valley Recreation Ground, Hong Kong.

With the help of audience participation 574 triangles were struck, breaking the world record in style.

The world record attempt was made in an Olympics-inspired concert by youth orchestra Striking Together, at Wood Green The Animals Shelter in Godmanchester.

Mark Aldous, the composer and conductor behind the world record, said: "The sound of 574 triangles all being struck at one time was amazing and it was fantastic to break the world record."

The orchestra, which is made up of eight to 19-year-olds, was set-up five-years-ago by Cambridgeshire Music, a county council-led scheme to develop music in schools and community groups.

Councillor Martin Curtis, who leads on the Olympics at Cambridgeshire County Council, said: "The achievement comes after five years of hard work and commitment for so many young musicians and every credit must go to them for their amazing music making.
"It is going to be an amazing summer for sports and culture and the event last weekend was just one of many great activities which we can all enjoy."

The record-breaking event is one of a number of projects forming part of the London 2012 Inspire programme, a scheme encouraging volunteers and community groups to take part in local events and link them to the Olympic Games.
