The Guinness World Records' record for the largest human Christmas tree was achieved by 672 participants at an event organised E-Plus Gruppe (Germany) in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest human rainbow; it consisted of 30,365 participants, organized by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines at the Qurino Grandstand, Rizal Park, Manila, Philippines.

"Our effort was obviously successful. It was a quite complex exercise, by drawing lines and thinking about entries, people, under perfect safety conditions and the fact that it was in a public place slowed the traffic a little, but the help of the police and city hall, we managed very well, Ioan Fodorut, one of the organizers, stated for eMaramures.

"We thank our college's students who also attended the rehearsals and I consider that the event and our attempt to break the record left a mark on this period, in the consciousness of the people in our town."

Among the participants to setting the record was also the Mayor Catalin Chereches, who was impressed by the initiative of "Vasile Lucaciu" National College students, also saying he will support them next year as well in their attempt to break records.

"It brings great joy for me, that we, the residents of Baia Mare, give an example to everyone in the country. It is an example of friendship, an example of unity, an example of solidarity, an example which this time is given by the young people, said Mayor Chereches.

" I strongly believe in the power these young people have to change things in this country. With symbols that change things, with examples, I also believe that things will transform step by step towards what these young people wish for them, for their families, for their future",the mayor of Baia Mare Municipality said.

Another purpose of this event was gathering funds necessary for purchasing clothing and toys packages for several children in family type homes. The packages will be distributed by the students of "Vasile Lucaciu" National College until the end of the week. "

For the next year, Mayor Chereches said he wishes to mobilize all young people in Baia Mare high schools and form a Christmas tree of about 5,000 persons.
