Largest choreographed song and dance routine: Londonderry breaks Guinness world record (VIDEO)
Derry/Londonderry, UK -- 5,482 people performed a song from the hit musical, Annie, conceived by Sandra Biddle and originally performed by her Foyle School Of Speech And Drama,
at Ebrington Square, setting the new world record for the Largest Choreographed Song And Dance Routine,
while raising thousands of pounds for the Foyle Hospice, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/. The Guinness world record for the largest Superman dance involved 369 participants and was achieved by William Edwards School and Sports College (UK) in Grays, Essex, UK.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the Largest Mambo dance, set by 3,868 people who danced to Pérez Prado's Mambo No. 5 for five minutes on 19 October 2000 at Palau Sant Jordi, Barcelona, Spain.
Derry-Londonderry had needed 4,501 individuals to break the Guinness World Record for the Largest Choreographed Song And Dance Routine in the world. They got 5,482.
Derry mayor Kevin Campbell said it was a fantastic day.
Sandra Biddle from the Foyle School of Speech and Drama, who helped teach people the steps, said she was delighted.
All proceeds from the event, which was sponsored by Roma Downey and supported by the likes of Derry actor Andrew Simpson, went to the Foyle Hospice.
