Largest Cup of Boba Tea: 626 Night Market breaks Guinness world record (VIDEO)

ARCADIA, CA, USA -- Organizers of the 626 Night Market made a 6-foot-tall plexiglass aquarium holding about 125 4-inch tapioca balls immersed in some 320 gallons of black tea and milk,
setting the new world record for the Largest Cup of Boba Milk Tea, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness World Records' record for the largest tea bag weighs 120 kg (264 lb 8.8 oz) and was achieved by All About Tea (UK) on board HMS Warrior in Portsmouth, UK, on 16 November 2011. The tea bag measures 2.48 m (8 ft 1.64 in) in length and width.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest cup of tea; it is 4000 litres (7039.01 pt) in volume and was produced by GlaxoSmithKline Beecham (Private) Ltd (Sri Lanka) for Viva, at Burgher Recreation Club grounds in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

626 Night Market, which is devoted to Asian foods, sips, sights, and sellables, will unfurl at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia.

"We are trying to be specifically boba milk tea, and we're making giant boba," said Aileen Xu, a spokeswoman for 626 Night Market, trying to differentiate the 626 Night Market's effort from the existing Guinness World Records' record, The Pasadena Star-News reported.

The supersized boba -- about the size of 2,500 regular, 16-ounce cups -- ended up costing about $5,500, money that came from corporate sponsors who wanted to put the San Gabriel Valley on the world map, said Aileen Xu, a spokeswoman for 626 Night Market.
