Most expensive doll sold at auction: Bonhams breaks Guinness World Records' record

LONDON, UK -- A rare and unique character doll broke the Guinness World records' world record for any doll ever sold as it sold at the Bonhams, Knightsbridge auction for £242,500 (about $394,000); the extraordinarily life-like little girl doll was made by German doll-manufactures Kammer & Reinhardt and sets
the new world record for the Most expensive doll sold at auction, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.
The World's Most Expensive Doll sold at auction wears a white dress with lace sleeves and a powder blue ribbon sash which matches her finely painted blue-grey eyes. A delicate straw hat sits on top of her auburn, plaited hair. This doll has unique pierced ears and a more adult expression than the other dolls, capturing a striking portrait of a young lady. No other example of this doll is known. It is therefore possible that she was an experimental mold.

The Guinness World Records' record for the highest price paid for a Barbie doll in an auction is £18,258 ($27,450), purchased in an auction held by Sandi Holder's Doll Attic (USA) in May 2006. The doll was an original 1959 model in mint condition.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most valuable toy soldier in the world; it is the first handcrafted 1963 G.I. Joe prototype which was sold on 7 August 2003 by its creator Don Levine to Baltimore businessman Stephen A. Geppi for $200,000 (£124,309) during an auction conducted by Heritage Comics Auctions of Dallas, Texas, USA.

  T
he doll was secured by a bidder in the room who got a round of applause from fellow buyers.
