The previous Guinness world record for the largest keyboard ensemble consisted of 136 participants between the ages of 6 and 17 years old who performed a medley of songs from around the world at Music Centre, School Of Music, Thrissur, Kerala, India.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest marathon playing keyboard/piano; it lasted 103 hr 8 sec and was completed by Romuald Koperski (Poland) at Alfa Centrum, Gdansk, Poland.
The previous world record was set last year in Sri Lanka with 160 keyboards.
The keyboards were donated by Yamaha and will go to 19 city schools.
"Music is really a powerful thing and more people need to play it," said Yamaha's Mark Anderson.
The record breaking event was a kickoff for the Make Music New York festival, now in its seventh year. The festival features over 1,000 free concerts in a single day. Check out its website for a schedule.
