Largest Guitar Ensemble: Jimi Hendrix Festival sets world record (PICS & Videos)
WROCLAW, Poland -- During the 10th annual Thanks Jimi Festival in Wroclaw, Poland, 7273 guitarists paid tribute to the guitar icon Jimi Hendrix by jamming on his classic tune Hey Joe - setting the new world record for the Largest Guitar Ensemble,

The Guinness world record for the largest guitar ensemble was achieved by 6,346 participants in an event organised by Thanks Jimi Festival, in Wroclaw, Rynek, Poland, on 01 May 2009.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest ukulele ensemble; it consisted of 1,547 participants during an event organised by ABF, Folkuniversitetet and Studieförbundet Vuxenskolan (all Sweden), in Helsingborg, Sweden.
Jimi Hendrix's brother made history on Tuesday by leading fans of the icon through a rendition of 'Hey Joe' in the world's largest ever guitar ensemble.
Thousands of followers gathered at the Thanks Jimi Festival in Poland on May Day to celebrate the guitar great's legacy and the event will go down in history after 7,273 people showed up at Wroclaw's Main Market Square with their instruments in hand to play the popular tune. (enlarge photo)
As tradition dictates, the guitarists played "Hey Joe," one of Hendrix's best-loved, but least challenging numbers. All participants were registered and given IDs, with organisers approving electric, acoustic, classical and bass guitars.
