Largest curry chain: Ichibanya Co. breaks Guinness world record
TOKYO, Japan -- Ichibanya Co., known for its yellow and brown Curry House CoCo Ichibanya restaurants, based in Kazunomiya, Aichi Prefecture, has more than 1,300 outlets, setting the new world record for the largest curry chain,
according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness world record for the largest curry is 10.3 tonnes (22707.61 lb) and was achieved by Abdul Salam (UK) of the Eastern Eye Restaurant in Lichfield (UK) during the Lichfield Festival.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest serving of currywurst; it weighed 175.2 kg (386.25 lb) and was made by MKN Maschinenfabrik Kurt Neubauer GmbH & Co. (Germany) in Wolfenbüttel, Germany.
Ichibanya, based in Kazunomiya, Aichi Prefecture, opened its first restaurant in Aichi in January 1978.
By 1994, it had at least one restaurant in every prefecture and had opened its first overseas outlet in Hawaii.
As of last month, Ichibanya had 1,305 outlets, of which 100 were overseas.
The company posted ¥39.7 billion in sales and a net profit of ¥2.2 billion in the year ending last May. Ichibanya also operates other restaurant chains, including Pasta de Coco.
