Most clambake meals served: UMass breaks Guinness World Records' record (VIDEO)
AMHERST, MA, USA -- The new school year at the University of Massachusetts has started with a record-setting feast; more than 3,000 traditional New England clambake dinners were served on the Amherst campus; Chefs prepared more than 3,000 lobsters, 6,000 little neck clams, 3,000 steamers, more than 6,000 ears of corn and 1,500 pounds of potatoes for students and staff, setting the new world record for the most clambake meals served,
according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness World Records' record for the most community meals delivered in three hours is 526 and was achieved by National Association of Care Catering (UK), in 16 locations in England, UK.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most hunger relief meals packaged in one hour by a team; it is 530,064 and was achieved by the Bobby Bones Show, TEEMHaiti, and Numana, Inc (all USA) at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. Teams of volunteers packaged meals of rice, soy, dried pinto beans and a vitamin/mineral substance. Each meal bag, contained 54 meals, and each bag was accompanied by three other bags into a box, stacked on 37 pallets and sent to the Maison Des Enfants De Dieu orphanage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
There was no previous record for largest New England clambake, but Guinness World Records officials had set a minimum bar at 1,500 meals in eight hours. UMass reached that mark in about an hour.
Ken Toong, executive director of auxiliary services, says most of the food was locally sourced, and all waste, including plates and flatware, will be composted.
The $70,000 cost of the clambake was covered entirely by donations and sponsorships.
