Tyler, TX, USA -- 327 people from the Filipino-Americans Association of East Texas gathered for a a "wrap and roll" party to to support Ross Sajo and her family as she battles pancreatic cancer,

The Guinness world record for the longest cooking marathon lasted 31 hours 31 minutes 55 seconds and was achieved by Ben Stewart (Australia) in Bowen, Queensland, Australia.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest stainless steel cooking spoon: 10.01 m - made by the Rösle GmbH & Co. KG in Marktoberdorf.

The record attempt wasn't the only reason people rolled in from all over East Texas, they were also there to support Ross Sajo and her family as she battles pancreatic cancer, and help raise funds to support her family during this trying time.

Mrs. Sajo, 43, a mother of three, was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer four years ago.

Since that time, her mother has died, her father had a stroke and her husband, Jojo Sajo, 42, suffered three aneurysms.

The Sajos have three children, ages 10, 8, and 4, including one child with special needs. They live in Houston, but Mrs. Sajo formerly lived in Tyler.

The idea for this record-setting event came out of a fundraiser the community already was doing, the Tyler Morning Telgraph reported.

Local Filipinos have been making lumpia, a Filipino-style egg roll, and selling it by the dozen to raise money for the Sajo family.   The Potpourri House, owned by Les and Carol Ellsworth, opened its doors for several days to the Filipino community allowing them to use a portion of the kitchen to make lumpia.

In addition to the 10 dollar requested donation during the World record attempt, the group has also set up a fund at Southside Bank.

According to the KETK TV station, the fund at the bank is under "Team Ross" and under Ross Sajo's name, if you would like to donate to her family.

"This event has brought the greater East Texas Filipino community closer, with many new friendships established," expressed Monina Mercado, the sister-in-law of Ross.

"The art of rolling eggrolls, also known as lumpia, is being passed onto the younger generation."
