Largest Lite-Brite Picture-world record set by ASICS

New York City, NY, USA -- At 300,000+ pieces and 3.4 x 4.6 feet, the gigantic Lite Brite commissioned by shoe-maker ASICS has set the world record for the Largest Lite-Brite Picture.

Photo: The new ASICS masterpiece features the Gel-Lyte III shoe from the ASICS Sportstyle collection. It is illuminated over an 11 ft. by 15 ft canvas and has more than 300,000 original-sized pegs.   (enlarge photo)

Lite-Brite, an iconic electric toy introduced in 1967 by Hasbro, has allowed millions to create lighted picture artworks by placing colorful pegs into paper templates placed on a lighted background.

ASICS' massive Lite-Brite will now begin its national tour, traveling across the country for the next five months to major music events and designer footwear boutiques, offering an up-close view of pop art history.

ASICS' Gel-Lyte III has been a featured style for edgy artist collaborations and is part of its sport fusion category, Sportstyle. It is available at Foot Locker, Urban Outfitters and specialty footwear boutiques, such as Sportie LA and David Z.

The former Guinness World Record for the Largest Lite-Brite Picture measured 4 ft. 9.25 in. by 9 ft. 9.5 in. and was constructed with 124,418 pegs by PA artist Mark Beekman.
