Tallest sand sculpture of Santa Claus-world
record set by Sudarsan Patnaik

Bhubaneswar, India -- Using 1,000 tones of sand,
sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik and his team carved a moving
image of Santa Claus at Orissa's Puri beach, measuring 100
feet long (30-meter-long) , 30 feet wide and 15 feet high-which
sets the record for the Tallest
sand sculpture of Santa Claus.

In his sculpture, Pattnaik showed Santa
Claus distributing peace in form of gifts.
"We set out with the aim of completing
the sculpture in 50 hours, but we have been able to nearly
complete it in 40 hours," Pattnaik said.
Though Hindus and Muslims comprise the
majority of the population in India, Christmas is celebrated
with much fanfare.
Last year, Pattnaik had created world's
biggest sand sculpture of Jesus Christ along with an image
of Santa Claus on Puri beach
Pattnaik, who has participated in 38
international sand sculpture competitions and festivals across
the world, recently wrote an e-mail letter to Obama seeking
the latter's support create a sand art park for the development
of global tourism and promotion of sand art.
The artist has said in his latter to the President-elect
that he needs a piece of land near to the sea beach in the
United States to create a sand art Park which will be world's
first sand sculpture park.
