Strongest and largest robot-world record set by KUKA

[June 14] Augsburg, Germany--KUKA Robotics Corporation, a leading global manufacturer of industrial robots, today introduced the world's largest and strongest robot. The KUKA KR 1000 titan 6-axis robot has a payload capacity of 1000 kg and a reach of 3200 mm and is designed to handle extremely heavy lifting and manipulation applications. The robot is ideally suited for industries requiring a heavyweight robot including the building materials, automotive and foundry industries.

"This new robot can be implemented in applications which until now required at least 2 robots, lift stations or other lifting equipment thus saving valuable floor space and increasing efficiency," said Stuart Shepherd, president of KUKA Robotics Corporation. "Its payload capacity gives production planners the speed and dynamics they previously only dreamed of."

The KUKA KR 1000 titan 6- axis robot recently earned its place as the world's strongest robot in the Guinness Book of Records. It has a total of nine motors, which together deliver the power of a mid-sized car. It features a robust steel base frame and a new drive concept. In axes 1 and 3, two motors feed into a single gear unit. Axis 2 is powered by two motors, each with its own gear unit. The KUKA titan can withstand a static torque of 60,000 newton meters (Nm).

KUKA Robotics Corporation, with its parent company KUKA Roboter GmbH, Augsburg, Germany, is one of the world's leading manufacturers of industrial robots, with an annual production volume approaching 10,000 units, and an installed base of over 80,000 units.

The company's 5 and 6 axis robots range from 3kg to 570kg payloads, and 635mm to 3700mm reach, all controlled from a common PC based controller platform. KUKA robots are utilized in a diverse range of industries including the appliance, automotive, aerospace, consumer goods, logistics, food, pharmaceutical, medical, foundry and plastics industries and in multiple applications including material handling, machine loading, assembly, packaging, palletizing, welding, bending, joining, and surface finishing.
