Largest Plastic Duck Race-world record
set by The Great British Duck Race
River Thames, LONDON, UK -- 205,000 plastic ducks
floated down the Thames as part of the third annual Great
British Duck Race in London-setting the new world
record for the Largest Plastic Duck Race.
Hundreds of spectators, including some
who had dressed up as ducks themselves, lined the banks to
watch the spectacle. Part of the river was closed off for
the annual event.
duck race is a fantastic opportunity to have some fun,
raise some serious money for a range of good causes and have
the chance to win 10,000 pounds, as well as take part in a
World Record Attempt,” Mike Scott, the event’s managing director,
was quoted by the Telegraph.
All the ducks were adopted by people or businesses
for £2 each, plus a donation to the NSPCC.
The gala held near Hampton Court Palace
raised over 100,000 pounds for various charities.
Created by Mike Scott in 2006,
the Duck Race raises money for charities by asking people
to sponsor small rubber ducks that are let loose on the river
The duck fleet floats full pelt (or as fast as the
tide will carry them) towards the finish line where the luckiest
ducks are gathered and their numbers recorded so their fortunate
sponsors can win fabulous prizes.
The owner of the first one to finish takes home
the first prize of £10,000. It took around three hours for
the first duck to make it to the finish.
The previous Guinness world record of 200,000
was set in Shangai earlier this year.
The ducks will now be recycled at a plant
in north Shropshire, probably into fence posts.
