The Guinness World Records' record for the largest horseshoe is 2.06 m (6 ft 9.1 in) wide and 2.13 m (6 ft 11.8 in) high, and was achieved by the Kentucky Derby Museum, as measured at Eagle Sign and Design in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, on 9 September 2015.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest horseshoe sculpture; it contained 1,071 horsehoes and was created by Donnie Faulk (USA) in Pulaski, Tennessee, United States, with the final measurement being made on 4 September 2006. The sculpture was a lifesize horse. The museum says it is an exact replica of one of the shoes worn by the 1973 Triple Crown champion, Secretariat.
"We are proud to house the world's largest horseshoe at the Kentucky Derby Museum," said museum president Patrick Armstrong.
"It is a spectacle that both horse racing fans and Louisvillians will want to come out and see, and it is reverent to the enormous impact that Secretariat made to the sport and to history."
Louisville-based Eagle Sign & Design cast the giant replica using aircraft aluminum contributed by original Secretariat racing plate manufacturer Thoro'bred, which provided shoes for the Meadow Stable colt during his racing career.
The horseshoe's permanent home will be at the Museum, but it will be the feature of a broader exhibit that is expected to travel around the nation during the summer of 2016.
