BUCHAREST, Romania / MIAMI, USA -- World Record Academy is sad to hear of the passing of the Chief Architect Anca Petrescu, the Chief Architect of Bucharest's ''Palace of the People,'' the World's Largest Administrative Building (according to the World Record Academy), who died in Floreasca Hospital in Bucharest. She was 64.

Petrescu, who had been in a coma after a September car accident, died in Floreasca Hospital in the Romanian capital, hospital spokesman Dr. Bogdan Oprita said.
Her landmark Bucharest palace is the world's Largest Administrative Building according to the World Record Academy; the record building was also included in the Guinness World Records' Book several times.
Appointed the building's chief architect in 1978, Ms. Petrescu worked at the still-unfinished palace until her accident. She told The Associated Press in an interview last year that Buckingham Palace in London and the Palace of Versailles outside Paris were her artistic inspirations for the building.
After communism ended, Ms. Petrescu was criticized for her role in creating the grandiose building, but Romanians have come to appreciate the palace; its tenants include the Parliament, the Constitutional Court and the Southeast European Law Enforcement Center, which fights crime, smuggling and fraud.
The late pop star Michael Jackson moonwalked in front of the palace, and former U.S. President George W. Bush, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have made speeches there.

There have been rumors that Romania's President Traian Basescu will award her a National Award.
Earlier this year, Mrs. Anca Petrescu has been scheduled for inclusion in World Record Academy's 'Wall of Fame', on December 1st, Romania's National Day.
The inclusion in our highly exclusive 'Wall of Game' is the highest appreciation for those with a major contribution to the World's Greatest Achievements.
World Record Academy sends their deepest condolences to Anca Petrescu's family.
