Fastest electric go kart acceleration: Linde E1 set world record (HD Video)

Oschersleben, Germany -- The electric kart, or e-kart, called the Linde E1, accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds , setting the world record for the fastest electric go kart acceleration at the Motorsport Arena.

The Guinness world record for the greatest distance by kart in 24 hrs outdoors is 2,056.7 km (1,277.97 miles) achieved by the team Equipe Vitesse.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the greatest distance by kart in 24 hrs outdoors (individual): 1,152.54 km (716.15 miles) achieved by Myk Prescott (South Africa).

Organized by the Linde Material Handling company, a German warehouse truck producer, the attempt took place as a part of the Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club Gran Turismo Masters Weekend, an auto-racing competition supported by the German ADAC automotive club.

The record-breaking electric kart, or e-kart, is called the Linde E1 and was produced specifically for the attempt. Its drive unit is the same as the units used in lift trucks, except that Linde E1 has a lithium ion battery and lift trucks use lead acid batteries.

The speeds clocked in at 3.4 seconds on the first run and 3.5 seconds on the second run.

Guinness World Records judges determined the final figure of acceleration based on an average of the runs, making 3.4 the new record to beat for the fastest 0-to-60-mph acceleration by an electric kart.

"Our E1 kart has exactly the same 'genes' as our new series of electric lift trucks: Its lift motor, power units, display, steering system and software are identical with those installed in these e-trucks," says Eric Hock, engineer in charge of Electronic Engineering at Linde MH, explaining the connection between Linde's electric lift trucks and the Linde e-kart.
