LONDON, UK -- Ryan Holmes, aged 21 years and 172 days, from Whitstable, Kent, broke the previous Guinness World Record set in 2010 by Adam Holland, who was 23 years and 220 days old when he finished his hundredth race, according to the World Record Academy.

Ryan Holmes, aged 21 years and 172 days, an endurance runner inspired by his friend's battle with blood cancer has become the youngest ever person to complete 100 marathons. Ryan Holmes has covered more than 2,500 miles so far, running an average of two races a week.

The Guinness World Records world record for the youngest Premier League referee is Michael Oliver (UK, b. 20 February 1985), who made his debut at 25 years, 182 days in Birmingham City v. Blackburn at St Andrews, Scotland, UK, on 21 August 2010.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the youngest female to run 100 marathons; it is Elizabeth Tunna (UK, b. 23 Oct. 1986), aged 24 years 351 days when she completed the Chester Marathon in Chester, Cheshire, UK, on 9 October 2011.

The runner, from Whitstable, Kent, has raised thousands of pounds for charity Bloodwise over the course of his races, which add up to more than 2,600 miles - approximately equivalent to the distance between London and Newfoundland, Canada.

Mr Holmes, who works as a control systems engineer on the London Underground, completed his hundredth marathon on New Year's Eve at Betteshanger Park in Deal, Kent, with a time of four-and-a-half hours, The Telegraph reports.

He completed the milestone over the course of just over two-and-a-half years, often running two marathons every week and several 100-mile ultra marathons. He said: "It's pretty amazing, to be honest. I cannot believe I have actually done it."

He said that he plans to take on more ultra marathons in 2017 and has his personal best marathon time of three hours and 33 minutes in his sights.
