To break the world record, the pupils had to complete 30 minutes of zumba, and Castleford Tigers Paws cheerleaders also came along to help them warm up.
The Guinness world record for the largest Zumba class involved 3,105 participants and was achieved by Cairns Regional Council (Australia) at the Cairns Esplanade in Cairns, Queensland, Australia.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the youngest Zumba instructor, set by Catalina Mejia (USA), who qualified as an instructor on 9 December 2007 aged 11 years 4 months 12 days. Catalina Mejia is now 15 years old and regularly instructs Zumba classes in her local gym in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA.
Liz Merriman, teacher and international links co-ordinator, who organised the zumba event, said: "It was absolutely fantastic, we had children from the primary schools, our students, members of the community and carers all taking part. The children were really engaged, they really enjoyed it."
