Most people wearing false mustaches: Fairfield breaks Guinness world record (VIDEO)
FAIRFIELD, IA, USA -- Cirque de Fairfield held a festival to welcome some 20,000 bicycle riders at the conclusion of The Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa; as many as 1,800 folks wearing false mustaches were on hand to greet the riders as they entered the city of just under 10,000 people, setting the new world record for the Most people wearing false mustaches,
according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.
The Guinness World Records' record for the
largest gathering of people wearing false moustaches is 1,532 and was achieved by Gilda's LaughFest (USA) in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA, on 7 March 2013.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest gathering of men with moustaches; it was achieved by 1,131 participants at an event organised by KARE-11 TV at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA.
RAGBRAI, the sponsor of the ride, reports at least 2,000 participated in the wearing of mustaches at the end of the 41st annual bicycle touring event.
"Part of our logo was a mustached man and the logo was hold on to your handlebars," said Terry Baker, Assistant Director of Fairfield Iowa Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Earlier this week, LaughFest and Cirque de Fairfield placed a friendly wager on the outcome, so it appears that Gilda's LaughFest will be sending themed goodies and swag to Fairfield, the county seat of Jefferson County in the southeast corner of the state.
