Most expensive domain name - sex.com
sets world record
NEW YORK, USA--Sedo, the online domain specialist, confirms the sale of the world's most lucrative domain name, Sex.com, to Clover Holdings LTD, a company registered in the island of St. Vincent, for $13 million - setting the new world record for the Most expensive domain name.

Escom acquired the domain in 2006 for a then record $11.5 million. Escom LLC was forced to sell after mounting debts put the company in the red.

The sale of sex.com was brokered by Sedo's senior domain broker who conducted a buyer search on behalf of Escom in accordance with an order issued by the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California.
The process was finalised more quickly than usually expected for a high quality domain name, with the sale taking just three months to complete as opposed to the average of a year.

Nora Nanayakkara, business development director at Sedo, comments, "Domain names of this value rarely become available and we are delighted to have been involved in this historic event.".

Sex.com was originally registered with Networks Solutions in May 1994 by businessman Gary Kremen, who went on to make a fortune in the burgeoning Internet industry by claiming the rights to numerous domain names, including Match.com and Housing.com.

The Guinness World record for the the most popular friend in the social networking world was set by Tila Tequila with 1.6 Million MySpace users.

  Guinness World Records recognized
NTT DoCoMo (Japan) as the world's largest wireless internet provider, with 45,687,117 subscribers to their i-mode service as of January 2006.

After Sex.com, the most expensive sites are Fund.com ($9.9 million), Porn.com ($9.5 million), Diamonds.com ($7.5 million), Slots.com ($5.5 million) and Toys.com ($5.1 million).
