Most hunger relief meals packaged: Kansans break Guinness world record

Wichita, KS , USA -- The event 'Serving the Hungry: At Home and in Haiti,' set up through Numana, Volunteer Kansas and the Downtown Rotary Club of Wichita, took place inside the Kansas Pavilion; two thousand volunteers participated in the food packaging event benefiting school children in Haiti; they exceeded the previous Guinness world record by more than 120,000 packaged bags, ending with a total of 479,034 hunger relief meals and
setting the new world record for the most hunger relief meals packaged in one hour by a team, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/most hunger relief meals packaged in one hour world record set by Kansans.

The new Guinness world record for the most hunger relief meals packaged in one hour by a team is 479,034 and was achieved by Numana, Volunteer Kansas and the Rotary Club of Wichita (all USA) in Wichita, Kansas, USA.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest hot pot party; it consisted of 13,612 people eating from 2,249 pots and was organised by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government in Chongqing, China.

Two thousand volunteers gathered together to help break the previous Guinness world record by packaging 350,000 meals in one hour.

In less than one hour, volunteers well exceeded this number by packaging a grand total of 479,034 meals.

The meals, which consisted of rice, beans, soy, and vitamin packs, will provide a hot lunch for 800 school children and their families in Lambert and Borde, Haiti.

Due to natural disasters and a depletion of USAID, schools in Haiti have gone without food since September 2012.

The Rotary Club of Wichita's Haiti Committee responded to this crisis by partnering with Volunteer Kansas, Numana and Channel 12 to raise more than $100,000 for the food packaging event
