Longest ice cream sundae: Kiwis break Guinness World Records record (VIDEO)
MANUREWA, New Zealand -- Hundreds of Kiwis gathered to create the world's longest ice cream sundae; a community initiative in Manurewa saw locals come together to create a 596.5 metre long sundae, beating the previous Guinness World Records' world record of 540.14 metres and setting the new world record for the Longest ice cream sundae,
according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness World Records' record for the longest ice-cream dessert measures 540.16 m (1,772 ft 2 in) and was achieved by Solivita (USA) in Poinciana, Florida, USA, on 9 November 2014.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest chain of people licking ice cream; it was achieved by 2,728 participants at an event organised by Morelli's of Portstewart Ltd. (UK) in Portstewart, Northern Ireland, UK, on 23 July 2011.
School pupils, local community groups, businesses, and over 600 volunteers joined the Guinness world record breaking effort, the TVNZ reports.

Everyone was encouraged to share in the dessert for a gold coin donation which went to the Kids Can Charitable Trust.
Manurewa's 596.5m sundae included:
- 2000 litres of icecream from sponsors Tip-Top
- 2700 wafers
- 43.75kg of chocolate topping
- 42kg of hundreds-and-thousands
- 600m of guttering from sponsors Marley
- 255 tables
Local board chairwoman Angela Dalton said the icecream challenge cost $17,000 and was organised in response to community feedback for more family activities.
