Longest barbeque marathon: Nando Fraser breaks world record
GRASKOP, South Africa -- A Graskop chef, Nando Fraser, spent
71 hours 6 minutes and 17 seconds behind the grill (braaing) at Canimambo Restaurant in Graskop, setting the new world record for the Longest barbecue marathon (Longest solo braai),
while raising funds for over a thousand orphans, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness world record for the longest barbecue marathon is 62 hours 6 mins and was achieved by Gareth Daniell (South Africa) in association with Spar and Deli Spices (South Africa) at SuperSport Park, in Centurion, Pretoria, South Africa.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest barbecue marathon (team): 26 hours 30 minutes, achieved by a team of six from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (Australia), in Sydney, NSW, Australia.
"It is definitely harder than I thought it would be. I did not reach the time I had hoped I would, but I did well and broke the existing record, setting a new one," says Fraser.
During his marathon grill, Fraser used about 220kg of meat and it was all for a worthy cause as over a thousand orphans will benefit from funds raised.
Fraser has brought on board charity organisations like Masiba Mbane in Sabie and Sizabantwana in Bushbuckridge.
"The challenges we face at this home is food and clothing for the children as well as funds to pay the care-givers. We want to thank Nando for the project that he has initiated," says Ken Scrimnger from Emmanuel's Family Home.
Fraser said the new world record is dedicated to the late Bobby Duffett, who with his wife Pauline, established the Masiba Mbane Children's Project in 2001.
"He was a great man, who did so much to improve the lives of so many in his community, so I am dedicating this attempt to Bobby's memory," Fraser said.
