The Guinness world record for the largest pot of chili con carne weighed 652.41 kg (1,438.32 lb) and was made by the Keystone Aquatic Club at the Broad Street Market, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the hottest chilli, which is the Trinidad Scorpion "Butch T" which was grown by The Chilli Factory (Australia) and rated at 1,463,700 Scoville Heat Units (SHU) according to tests conducted by EML Consulting Services in Morisset, New South Wales, Australia.

When the pot arrived at Main Street from the Minto Grain Elevator, where it had been weighed, all the volunteers gathered for a group photo, The Grand Forks Herald reports.
The sea of yellow shirts celebrated and chanted "Hip-hip, hooray!" in the crowded parking lot.

Minto resident Chris Misialek brought the community together to break the record.

A few weeks ago, the Minto Community Center called an open meeting for anyone interested in contributing to the event.

Misialek said friends from as far away as Texas, Washington and North Carolina came to help with the event. "This is not just a Minto-area attempt," he said. "There are a lot of people from everywhere trying to help."

Funds that were raised will go to several groups, including the Sunshine Memorial Foundation, founded by Grand Forks native Donovan Larson.
