Largest bowl of porridge - Scott's Porage Oats sets world record
CUPAR, Scotland, UK -- A giant bowl of porridge, weighing 690 kilograms, enough to feed 2000 people, was made at the annual Highland Games in Cupar
- setting the new world record for the Largest bowl of porridge.

The record attempt for the Largest bowl of porridge in The World was made by a team from Cupar Round Table with the help of food firm Scott's Porage Oats.

Craig Manson, chairman of Cupar Round Table, which runs the Highland Games, said it had been a very exciting and ambitious challenge.

"We have achieved our goal of breaking the record and put Cupar back on the map," he added.

It took more than seven hours to cook the bowl of Scotland's traditional breakfast. Local firefighters were on hand to add water from their fire engine, before the mixture was heated and left to cook for several hours.

The attempt for the world's largest bowl of porridge used a specially-made bowl measuring 1.5m in height and width, which was transported by a forklift truck for measuring.

Some of the porridge was tried by officials at the event, but most of it will go on to be used as animal feed. (Unfortunately, the 'adjudicators' from Guinness World Records still accept such a big waste of food).

The oats were provided by Scott's Porage Oats from their Cupar factory. Hayley Stringfellow, Marketing Director of Scott's Porage Oats, added: "We are thrilled to have set a new World Record."

"Cupar is the home of Scott's Porage Oats, so it's only fitting that the record for the biggest bowl of porridge should be held here," Stringfellow added.

The previous Guinness World Record for the Largest bowl of porridge was a 171kg bowl, set in Manchester last year.
