Largest
Bowl of Pasta - Buca di Beppo sets world record
GARDEN GROVE, Calif., USA -- Italian restaurant
Buca
di Beppo filled a swimming pool repurposed as a pasta
bowl measuring 15' in diameter by 3.5' high with more than
13,786 pounds of pasta and 120 gallons of sauce -setting the
new world record for the Largest
Bowl of Pasta.
After a week of full-time working by
at least 20 people, buckets of the cooked spaghetti were dumped
into an above-ground swimming pool disguised as a pasta dish
in the Buca di Beppo Italian Restaurant's parking lot.
The
enormous bowl was filled via a "bucket brigade" made up entirely
of Buca employees, filling the massive bowl positioned by
the restaurant's main entrance. Six chefs supervised the food
preparation and production of the world's
Largest Bowl of Pasta.
The feat was achieved with hundreds of on-lookers
and Mayor William Dalton of the City of Garden Grove and other
city officials in attendance. The weight of the pasta was certified
by a notary officer.
"We hit this one out of the park so the record
will stand for a while," said Kevin Sheehan, general manager
of the Italian eatery.
According to company officials, the
world's
Largest Bowl of Pasta won't be wasted, but donated
to a local agricultural community to be used as animal feed.
The chain was also committed to
donating 10,000 pounds (4,535.9 kg) of dry pasta to charities
nationwide as part of this event, Cervenka said.
The restaurant
chain will be celebrating its world's
Largest Bowl of Pasta by giving away free spaghetti
Monday March 15th in its restaurants nationwide.
Diners who order a pasta entrée will receive
a 14-ounce bowl of spaghetti served with a choice of either
meat or marinara sauce.
