Largest collection of salt-and-pepper shakers - Dorena Young sets world record
WALLSBURG, UT, USA -- Dorena Young, 70, has collected more than 3,645 pairs of salt-and-pepper shakers - setting the new world record for the Largest collection of salt-and-pepper shakers.    Photo: Dorena Young, 70, has collected more than 3,645 pairs of salt-and-pepper shakers, an amount that set a new world record for the Largest collection of salt-and-pepper shakers.    “I’ve never seen anything that massive,” said Tony Gurney, one of two Utah licensed collectibles dealers who helped verify Young’s collection. “It’s really unbelievable for anyone to have that amount on display. And she does it with character and style.”

Every room in the Young house displays shakers with a theme.

In the kitchen, a china cabinet contains all manner of food-related shakers, including fruit and vegetables, ketchup bottles and animals wearing chef hats.

In the living room, Young displays shakers with an outdoor sportsman theme: pheasants, fish, bison and deer. They go along with the three elk heads, two deer heads and numerous antlers that her husband, Glen, an avid hunter, has on display.

Even the bathroom features shakers from the sea: boats, frogs, sea horses and lighthouses. “I keep saying I have enough of them, but then I see one that I don’t have and I’ll have to buy it,” said Young, who started the collection in grade school during a greeting-card fundraiser.

Browsing through Young’s collection, it’s obvious that just about anything (cats, dogs, cars, houses, hats, dice, slot machines and baseballs) or anyone (James Dean, George and Martha Washington and JFK and Jackie) can be turned into a salt-and-pepper shaker set. “You name it, it’s there,” Young said.

The previous Guinness World Record for the Largest collection of salt-and-pepper shakers was a 3,000 sets collection.
