Fastest free-legged pacer Astronomical set world record

[June 27] Georgian Downs, Canada--The five-year-old Astronomical became the fastest free-legged pacer in the history of the sport, and the fastest pacer to tour Georgian Downs' five-eighths mile oval, when he buzzed the strip in a scintillating clocking of 1:50.
In rein to Randy Waples, Astronomical steamrolled his way through fierce fractions of :26.3, :55.1 and 1:22.1 before digging down for a :27.4 closer en route to the three-quarter length decision over Our Lucky Killean (Mark MacDonald) in a $15,000 division of the Masters Pacing Series.

Dr. Ian Moore of Charlottetown, PE, trains and shares ownership on the career winner of $670,493 with partners William Shearer of Bedford, NS, and R G McGroup Ltd of Bathurst, NB.

The effort erased the former free-legged record of 1:50.1, which was set by Luvm N Leavem at Hawthorne Racecourse on June 29, 2002.
