Most Birdies in 12 Hours - world record set by Alexander Sandeman

SANDY LANE, Barbados -- English-born golfer Alexander Sandeman sinked 54 birdies in 12 hours on Country Club's course and helped raise funds for the Sandy Lane Charitable Trust , setting the world record for the Most Birdies in 12 Hours.

"Preparing for the 'Most Birdies in 12 Hours' record required stamina, skill and most importantly mental fortitude," said Sandeman.
"It has been very exciting to set this record in Barbados and on a course which has meant so much to me since I was a child. I'd also like to thank the golf community in Barbados for so generously supporting me and the Sandy Lane Charitable Trust."

"Sandy Lane and the Country Club Course were very pleased to be a part of Mr. Sandeman's World Record for the Most Birdies in 12 Hours," said Sandy Lane General Manager Robert Logan. "But most importantly, we are thrilled that he chose to use this opportunity to give back to the children of Barbados through Sunshine Village."

Sandeman, a pro golfer who now resides in Barbados, first played Sandy Lane's course at age 10. While he did not play competitive golf from 2006 to the beginning of 2009 due to a hand injury, he realized in March 2009 that there was no previous record for "The Most Birdies in a Day" and sent a proposal into Guinness World Records to recommend the new category.

Sandeman dedicated the end of 2009 to training for the feat.

Golf officials from the Barbados Golf Association were on hand during his 12-hour session, as was a cameraman to record his achievement.

Offering 45 holes, Sandy Lane's Country Club and Green Monkey courses were designed by Tom Fazio.
