Longest indoor hockey match-world record set
by Havering Hockey Club
HORNCHURCH, England -- 24 players from the Havering
Hockey Club played hockey for 26 hours and 38 minutes-
raising more than £3,000 for the Recorder's
Lifeline Appeal and setting the world record for the
Longest indoor hockey match.

been sponsored by the pub on Hornchurch Road. Each team had

And the final score? An amazing Havering
275, Harrow 382.
Club President Pat Johnson said: "They've
project managed something that was really quite huge. "There
were quite a few players with cramps and strains, but they
didn't give up - they just kept going and going."
"We were all quite drained but we kept
each other going with morale," youngest player Alex Defroand,
17, said.
"People think you go into a world record
attempt having had a full night's sleep and day's rest - but
we didn't!" one of the organisers and player Paul Nerurkar
said.
As Paul said: "You don't realise how many people
are involved in a 20-hour event - not just the players but
the 43 officials, ranging from medics, to umpires, stewards
and independent observers."
THE Recorder's
Lifeline Appeal is looking to raise £300,000 to buy
an essential piece of medical equipment for Queen's Hospital
in Romford.
The money will buy Stereotactic cancer-treating
equipment for the hospital in Rom Valley Way. The machine
will help in the fight against cancer by pinpointing abnormal
cells in the brain and beaming x-rays in to destroy them.
