Highest Hip Air by a Woman - world record set by Grete Eliassen

The Canyons, Park City, UT, USA -- Grete Eliassen, 23, reached speeds of approximately 60 miles an hour, hit the custom 30-foot tall hip and launched 31 feet above the deck of a gigantic hip jump custom built (by Red Bull) at The Canyons resort - setting the new world record for the Highest Hip Air by a Woman.

"There is no other experience in the world that feels even close to what I feel when I am jumping. Having such a large feature built just for me was a super humbling experience. With my whole crew, family and friends watching it was really an incredible day. It is a moment in my life I will remember forever," said Eliassen.

Despite unprecedented spring snow storms, including 22 inches of snow on jump day, The Canyons Resort's park crew shoveled, cut and shaped more than 45,000 cubic yards of snow to create the largest snow terrain park feature ever built in Utah, so Grete Eliassen, an accomplished free skier and X-Games medalist could turn into a human rocket.

In addition to actively progressing the sport, Eliassen is working on a film project. The ski movie, Say My Name, a two-year venture embarked on with longtime ski/snowboard photographer Stan Evans, is slated for release in Fall 2010.

Grete Eliassen knows no bounds in skiing. At 23, she's one of the best all-around skiers today; she's raced for the Norwegian ski team, won the X Games Superpipe and U.S. Open Slopestyle multiple times, designed signature pro-model skis and filmed lines in the backcountry.

The Minnesota-born Norwegian is known for her versatility and smooth style, no doubt attributed to her desire to ski everything. Off the slopes, Grete devotes time to supporting charities such as the Women's Sports Foundation and Stand Strong Again.

The Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah is the largest single ski and snowboard resort in Utah and one of the largest in the United States. Located just four miles from Park City’s historic Main Street, The Canyons averages 350 inches of powder soft snow annually while offering 3,700 acres of diverse terrain over eight mountains with 163 trails.
