Most dogs in costumed attire: St. Louis pet parade sets world record (Video)

ST. LOUIS, MO, USA--With a count of 1,326 dogs, The Beggin' Pet Parade held in Soulard sets the new world record for the most dogs in costumed attire gathered in a single location, according to World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com

The Guinness world record for the most dogs in costumed attire gathered in a single location is 603 and was achieved by JOKER INC (Japan) and the participating dogs, during the Tokyo Dog Jack at the Roppongi Hills Arena, in Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most dogs washed in 8 hours by an individual: 80, set by Amanda Sullivan-Webb (UK) at The College of West Anglia, Cambridgeshire, UK.

"We are the largest pet parade in the country, and there's no reason why we shouldn't be in the Book of World Records," said Tracie Quackenbush, the executive director of Open Door Animal Sanctuary, a local shelter that receives the proceeds raised from the parade.

A block into the parade, costumed participants were directed into two lanes where two sets of counting teams kept separate tallies.

When registering, the pet walkers received a button that read "World Record Participant 2012."

A camera videotaped the lines from above, in case discrepancies forced a recount. A notary also made sure the dogs were in costume and notarized the final count.
