The previous Guinness World Records' record for the largest firework display consisted of 479,651 fireworks and was achieved by Dubai Government at Palm Jumeirah Island and The World Islands in Dubai, UAE, on 31 December 2013. The fireworks produced by Grucci were launched from stations on the World Islands and Palm Jumeirah stretching over 95 km (59.03 miles) of seafront.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest aerial firework shell; it weighs 464.826 kg (1,024.76 lb) and was produced and launched by Alps Fireworks Industry Co., Ltd. (Japan) at the 13th Kounosu fireworks festival organised by Kounosu Junior Chamber of Commerce in Kounosu, Saitama, Japan on 11 October 2014.
Svea Fyrverkerier's general manager Anders Sture said prior to the evening that the sky would be a sea of red, white and blue so as to form a huge Norwegian flag. He explained that it was their own tribute to the Norwegian constitution's 200th anniversary, The IceNews reported.
Last year's New Year celebration in Dubai saw 479,651 fireworks fill the sky in just six minutes. This year's event may have taken longer, but the new record was set in front of around 15,000 spectators, who also enjoyed the switching on the Sogne's Christmas lights on the same night.
