 Largest donation of pet food:
Living Hope Church breaks Guinness world record

VANCOUVER, WA, USA -- Living Hope Church recently collected 19,600 pounds
(9.8 tons) of pet food in seven days, a feat that smashed a Guinness world record held for seven years by a South African supermarket and sets the new world record
for Largest donation of pet food in seven days, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness world record for the most pet food donated in seven days weighed 5,901.8 kg (13,011 lb 3 oz) and was collected between 1-7 September 2006 at the Pick 'n' Pay Supermarket in Boksburg, South Africa, before being donated to the Boksburg SPCA.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest gathering of pets; it consisted of 4,616 pets who went for a walk with their owners at the Feria de las Flores in Medellin, Colombia.

Between April 30 and May 5, church leaders asked their 5,000-strong congregation and the Vancouver-area community to aid their lofty goal of breaking the Guinness World Record for "largest donation of pet food in one week."

Senior Pastor John Bishop said nearly two-thirds was dog food, but donors also gave horse feed, goldfish flakes and even gerbil chow, The Columbian reported.

After the bounty was weighed, the food was delivered to a handful of Clark County animal charities, including 4,000 pounds to the Humane Society for Southwest Washington and 769 pounds to Northwest Battle Buddies, which provides service dogs to combat veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder.
