Largest Beaded Wedding Dress: Gail Be breaks Guinness World Records' record (VIDEO)
EDINA, MN, USA -- Dressmaker Gail Be, of Edina, Minnesota, enlisted the help of 22 other seamstresses to complete and epic challenge: 'Fantasy', a wedding dress with a 20ft train, which weighs almost 400lbs and boasts nearly 1million individual embellishments, setting the new world record for the Largest Beaded Wedding Dress,
according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.
Photo: Gail Be has spent over three years designing the Largest Beaded Wedding Dress, which has taken over 20,000 hours to complete with a staff of 23 workers. The wedding gown weighs almost 400 pounds and features a 20.5-foot train. Almost 1 million beads adorn the gown, including 500,000 glass pearls and over 400,000 crystals, some vintage Swarovski. The gown is a size 4, according to Be. Photo: Gail Be Designs (enlarge photo)
The Guinness World Records' record for the most pearls on a wedding dress is 13,262, and was achieved by Yumi Katsura (Japan). The dress was presented to the public at the 2012 Yumi Katsura Grand Collection in Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan, on 21 February 2012.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest wedding dress train; it measured 2488.65 m (8,164 ft 10 in) and was created by Lichel van den Ende (Netherlands). It was presented and measured in Zoetermeer, The Netherlands, on 22 December 2009.
According to the Guinness World Records, the world record for most crystals on a wedding dress is 45,024 and was achieved by Özden Gelinlik Moda Tasarim of Istanbul, Turkey, in 2011.
Fantasy is set to have a much more lasting impact, with her use of 995,000 beads - including 500,000 glass pearls and 400,000 crystals – held together by seven miles of wire.
Work on the dress hasn't even finished yet, despite 22 seamstresses working on its over a 20,000-hour period in the last three years. Gail predicts the finished product should be ready next month. (enlarge photo)

Her masterpiece contains beads that Be herself has collected from all over the world and is funded entirely by Be herself – though she hasn't got an inkling how much it costs.
Be scored a coup recently when Lady Gaga wore one of her designs – a headpiece named "Erotic Ice" – for the iTunes cover of "Anything Goes," her duet with Tony Bennett.
Although models have tried the dress for publicity shots, at almost 400 pounds it is too heavy to wear.
